Shift gears and cycle along the picturesque Mekong River through rural countryside and villages, stopping for hearty meals and refreshing drinks along the way. We spend the first day on the west bank from Prek Prolung to Vatanak. Along the way we visit Wat, farms, rice noodle production and swim in the Mekong clear water in season. Overnight stay in a local family home who live on the bank of the Mekong River and taste traditional meals. On the second day we boat a local boat and cruise out into the mighty Mekong for a chance encounter with Irrawaddy dolphins.

Itinerary

Day 1: West Bank of the Mekong & Homestay (L,D)
story-line-watWe start our day at 8:30 AM by cycling south out of Kratie on the Old River Road towards Te River. Along the way we pass through a Vietnamese and Wat Rokakandal; a unique 400 years old wood carving on the roof of this temple gives you a good photo shot. As we wait for the ferry we can enjoy looking over to a floating village on the Mekong.

Having arrived on the west bank, we will visit attractions such as tobacco building, seasonal crops, Wat; learn how palm sugar is being produced in the season and relax alongside beautiful rice paddies, the perfect opportunity for photos. We might be able to try some delicious, freshly pressed sugar cane juice, A must for those with a sweet tooth.

local-noodle-productionWe spend lunch break in a local family’s home. As our cycling tour continue further and further through many rural villages, villagers especially kids are friendlier. Great smiles with greeting word “HELLO! HELLO!” they look to you like famous people or people of the day. There are opportunities to see local productions such as rice whisky and rice noodle; stop for refreshing drinks along the way; relax and refresh your body with a swim at a secret and beautiful Mekong beaches rewarded by many Mekong green Islands in season (January-May).

In the evening, we will be welcomed in another family who live on the bank of the Mekong River for overnight stay and served evening meal. You will experience true rural Cambodian life by meeting local’s family with a personal touch; taste a traditional Cambodian food, home cooked over a wood fire. The meal will be cooked with local delicious fresh ingredients from the surrounding area, and fruit straight from our orchard. Tonight, you will have an overnight stay in a traditional Cambodian home under mosquito net at one of the local family who live on the bank of the Mekong River; experience bucket shower like Khmer people. No electricity only car battery for light.

Day 2: East Bank of the Mekong & Dolphin Watching (B,L)
sunrise-over-mekong-riverRise early for sunrise over flooded forests of the mighty Mekong River then enjoy rice noodle soup. After an early breakfast, we take a local ferry across the Mekong River passing through many green Islands to the east bank. Afterwards we cycle south and stop for coffee break at Kampi Restaurant with great view of the Kampi Rapids. There is an opportunity to relax at Kampi Rapids resort in season.

Then we encounter Kampi Pool, one of the many deep pools where the rare river dolphins gather to feed. We board a local boat and cruise out into the mighty Mekong for a chance encounter with these gentle mammals. Viewing is guaranteed. After enjoying an hour or more of dolphin viewing, we explore meditation center of Phnom Sambok, a small mountain which has two peaks, one dull and the other pointed, and has a lush forest filled with birds. A concrete staircase makes the mountaintop accessible. Once at the top, we are rewarded with a beautiful panoramic view of the countryside, especially the Mekong River. We stop for meal along the way back to Kratie.

Trip starts from 2 person. Booking for a greater number of people (ie. 5 people) you will receive a discount rate if compare to booking for 2 people. Therefore, during the tour if there are more people than when you booked, you will still get a discount rate.

Dress standard: Dress respectfully for visiting in the local community. Trousers/skirt or knee length shorts and shirt/t-shirt that covers your shoulders are appropriate. Comfortable shoes or sandals suitable for walking are also recommended.

What to bring: Small backpack for 2 days, torch or flashlight, mosquito repellent, sun cream, hate and clothes.
